Stacking the Shelves: June 17th

*Stacking the Shelves is hosted by Tynga's Reviews and Reading Reality! It is all about sharing the books you have added to your shelves, whether they be physical or virtual. This means you can discuss books that you have borrowed from the library, bought at the bookstore, or added to your TBR list! In my case, I'm going to talk about all three!*

This week, I am borrowing:

The Bane Chronicles by Cassandra Clare, Sarah Rees Brennan, & Maureen Johnson

I am catching up on Cassandra Clare's books and reading them in publication order, so I saw this at the library and was very intrigued! I love Magnus in The Mortal Instruments and The Infernal Devices series, so a collection of stories that pertain to him really interests me.

The Shadowhunter's Codex by Cassandra Clare and Joshua Lewis

Much for the same reason, I picked up The Shadowhunter's Codex and I think it will be really interesting to learn more about the Shadowhunters and read what many of the characters have read. I flipped through the pages and noticed that beside the teachings of the Codex, there's notes in the margins, which I love! I think it will give me a deeper insight into the Shadow world, so I'm really excited to read it!

This week, I purchased:

The complete A Court of Thorns and Roses series by Sarah J. Maas

So, I have already read the first book, A Court of Thorns and Roses, and absolutely loved it, so I needed to buy the next two books in the series! After I finish Cassandra Clare's books, I am going to move onto this series and finish them because I am dying to read more about Feyre, Tamlin, and Rhysand.

Cinder by Marissa Meyer

I have heard so many great things about The Lunar Chronicles, so I thought it was time to buy the first novel in the series. I am super excited to read them because I heard the premise of them is retellings, which I love. I haven't read the summary yet, because I hate spoiling myself, so I will find out what it's about while reading, but I think I will enjoy it!

This week, I added to my TBR:

Roar by Cora Carmack

I have seen this book all over Instagram, and I was immediately intrigued because the cover is so beautiful! Here is a summary from Goodreads, if you want to learn more:

"In a land ruled and shaped by violent magical storms, power lies with those who control them.

Aurora Pavan comes from one of the oldest Stormling families in existence. Long ago, the ungifted pledged fealty and service to her family in exchange for safe haven, and a kingdom was carved out from the wildlands and sustained by magic capable of repelling the world’s deadliest foes. As the sole heir of Pavan, Aurora’s been groomed to be the perfect queen. She’s intelligent and brave and honorable. But she’s yet to show any trace of the magic she’ll need to protect her people.

To keep her secret and save her crown, Aurora’s mother arranges for her to marry a dark and brooding Stormling prince from another kingdom. At first, the prince seems like the perfect solution to all her problems. He’ll guarantee her spot as the next queen and be the champion her people need to remain safe. But the more secrets Aurora uncovers about him, the more a future with him frightens her. When she dons a disguise and sneaks out of the palace one night to spy on him, she stumbles upon a black market dealing in the very thing she lacks—storm magic. And the people selling it? They’re not Stormlings. They’re storm hunters.

Legend says that her ancestors first gained their magic by facing a storm and stealing part of its essence. And when a handsome young storm hunter reveals he was born without magic, but possesses it now, Aurora realizes there’s a third option for her future besides ruin or marriage.

She might not have magic now, but she can steal it if she’s brave enough.

Challenge a tempest. Survive it. And you become its master."

The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo by Taylor Jenkins Reid

This is another book that I have seen all over Instagram, and I love the green color of the cover. Here is the Goodreads summary:

"Evelyn Hugo is finally ready to tell the truth about her glamorous and scandalous life. But when she chooses unknown magazine reporter Monique Grant for the job, no one in the journalism community is more astounded than Monique herself. Why her? Why now?

Monique is not exactly on top of the world. Her husband, David, has left her, and her career has stagnated. Regardless of why Evelyn has chosen her to write her biography, Monique is determined to use this opportunity to jumpstart her career.

Summoned to Evelyn’s Upper East Side apartment, Monique listens as Evelyn unfurls her story: from making her way to Los Angeles in the 1950s to her decision to leave show business in the late 80s, and, of course, the seven husbands along the way. As Evelyn’s life unfolds through the decades—revealing a ruthless ambition, an unexpected friendship, and a great forbidden love—Monique begins to feel a very a real connection to the actress. But as Evelyn’s story catches up with the present, it becomes clear that her life intersects with Monique’s own in tragic and irreversible ways.

Filled with emotional insight and written with Reid’s signature talent, this is a fascinating journey through the splendor of Old Hollywood into the harsh realities of the present day as two women struggle with what it means—and what it takes—to face the truth."
